Hi, my name is Cameron.
I have been counselling now for well over a decade. I am very experienced in working with teenagers and spent my first 10 years counselling full time in secondary schools, including as Head of Guidance. In 2016 this expanded to also include working as a private practice counsellor, seeing a variety of people. I now also provide supervision to counsellors, or anyone working within pastoral care and social practice systems.
As well as working in private practice counselling in Christchurch, I am still part-time in a school environment. My work is shaped by several counselling modalities including Person Centred, CBT and Narrative ideas, as well as the use of Sand Tray alongside them.
I grew up in Hawke's Bay, studied History and Political Science at the University of Canterbury and then trained to become a secondary teacher through the Christchurch College of Education, majoring in History and Classical Studies. I worked in Auckland for five and a half years as a teacher and in leadership pastoral care roles. I loved the work of supporting people through challenge, loss, change and transition and chose to leave teaching and train in counselling at the University of Auckland, completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Counselling).
I really enjoy working with young people, so chose to return to secondary schools. I have worked extensively with young people and their families, managed counselling services and supervised other counsellors in their practice. This includes many students completing their counselling studies. After working as Head of Guidance in Auckland, I returned to Canterbury where I now work part time in a secondary school and in my counselling and supervision practice as well.
I am a Member registered with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
I'm married and have two school age children. I love stories in any form; books, films, games, gaming. I grew up in and around sport and currently a fan of the NFL. Great design and art fascinates me in whatever form it takes, from motorcycles to classical art, vintage to modern. I love to discover new interests to enjoy and I have been learning about fishing, craft beer and good food.
